why would they reject a person applying for a work permit?
I had no problem getting all the necessary permits at my former two schools. Or, I should say, the
schools applying on my behalf had no problem.
Could it be maybe that the school I just left hasn't submitted the requisite documents to M.O.E yet that say I'll not be working there any longer? In other words does one have to prove to them that one has legally left the former school before re-applying as an employee at the new school?
I remain,

I think they do have to be notified by your former school. Did you check if they did that?
It really sucks, sorry! Didn't they say why they turned you down? |

| I was denied a work permit a few years ago, in spite of the fact that I have an MA in TESOL. The reason was i did not have a TEFL certificate! They applied for me as a nonteacher (i.e. management) and I got it. It does seem kind of random. Bol sanslar. |

I had the same thing! I wasn't actually turned down, but they made a stink because my MA didn't have the word 'certificate' on it.
Such a broad understanding of the world and the way it works!
Mongrelcat, is your school willing to do the footwork to get around whatever problem the Ministry created? |

| Think of the poor sods at the chain schools who have no chance of ever getting work permits because their cheating, illegal and unprofessional schools will not comply with basic human rights. |

i think/hope so....
but i now believe what i need are a couple of documents from my old school -
1- Istifa Onayı ( Approval of resignation)
2- Hizmet Cetveli ( they're not sure about this one- Service scala ?)
so i will have to run/walk back to Ankara for that. Yipee! |

That's so crappy they're making you go back to Ankara! Hasn't anyone heard of a fax machine? I mean, I'm sure they have but just don't trust them new-fangled gadgets...
Oh well. Good luck and I hope it all works out! |

| It's probably because you are moving from ankara to istanbul, something that inexplicably makes thingscomplicated because of bolge politics or something- when I made the move from kayseri, my ikamet spent 7 months being shuffled around between ankara, istanbul, kayseri, and me (including 2 months back in canada over summer holidays), each time being sent back for some reason or another. I even had to re enter turkey on a tourist visa because my ikamet was stuck somewhere in ankara... so I was legal but not in any way I could tangibly prove... really weird. Anyhoo. My old school faxed the papers to my new one so I see no reason why you need to go back to ankara in person. |

| This thread unnerves me. I'm awaiting MOE approval right now, but nobody has asked to see copies of my certs and diplomas. But I am getting some pressure to make travel arrangments, which I am unwilling to do without MOE approval. Even though my new employer will reimburse the fare, if the MOE turns me down will they still reimburse. Oh, I hate bureaucracy, and having just re-read "Lords of the Horizon" I guess Ottoman things still go on in modern Turkey. Of course they do. |

| Unless things have changed, your certs and dips (basically BA, TEFL, teaching ert if necessary) are essential to even apply for the work permit with the MOE. How can you have even begun the application process without anyone asking for them? This doesn't sound right. |

| Um, good question. My new employer is a private university with a very fine reputation when it comes to employing ESL teachers. I've filled out a slew of forms for them and the Consil, but I emailed the uni about copies of the various diplomas, etc, after dropping in on this thread. I'm sure they're fine, maybe just forgot to ask for copies, though the app already went through the YOK once and came back asking for signature on a Turkish language version, but no other remarks about papers. |

| A private uni with a fine reputation for anything must be an oxymoron. |

| There is nothing quite like the cynicism of a TEFLer is there? At my rather advanced age, I've become addicted to the benefits of planned optimism. No fool like an old fool, I know, but I look great after that discount facelift in Bangkok. Oops, wait, "looking great after a discount facelift in Bangkok" --- oxymoronic, surely? |

Aw, thrifty's just tired cos he's always on long distance buses, commuting between the gulf and Turkey for reconnaissance missions. Very sore bottom. Makes one cranky. |
