Was wondering if anyone can give me some pointers on the best kind of camera to get...is it worth getting a digital camera or is it easy enough to buy film/get film developed for a 'normal' camera?

I would really appreciate any thoughts or advice anyone may have on how they approach photography in VN

I find digital cameras better just because you can delete as you go. So instead of having 7 decent photos on a film roll of 36, you view the photos after you take them and delete the rubbish ones! Then you can download the ones you decided to keep to CD at most Internet cafes. If you get a large memory card you can store hundreds of photos, rather than carry films around with you.

I'm a rubbish photographer so find that I end up deleting about 80% of the photos I've taken (specially after a few drinks) so it would be a waste of money and space to have a film camera!!

I agree with TDL999, digital all the way.

Using a film camera is like using a typewriter.

When I say rubbish I mean RUBBISH. Mustly fingers/thumbs, feet, headless friends etc. No software on earth is going to improve my bad photos. But strangely when I get a good one its usually really good. Someone even advised me to take it up as a career!! HAHA, if they only knew!

Go for Canon.

Run a search on google - there are some good sites that list Cameras and compare them too. Try DCPreview/DCReview (I forget the correct address)

Plenty of good photos in Saigon; go for the crowds in the city, the food vendors, the chaos, the bikes, the people.......
