I have noticed that "CV's with covering letter only please." has started to show up, dose it mean they want a letter, to cover the CV or a letter covering the CV and if it's covering the CV how can they see it, and how to do it in the email? is it a new tec? |

It's a covering letter because it covers the details that aren't in the CV, normally those specific to your reasons for applying for that particular job. |

A "cover letter" is a letter that, along with what the previous poster said, gives you an opportunity to tell the prospective employer why it is in his interests to hire you; it's basically a sales pitch and you're the product.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but in the USA I never saw the phrase "covering letter", and it seemed to be more of a British expression. Americans use "cover letter". |

Yes, we Americans use "cover letter."
Of course, America and England are two countries separated by the same language. |
