Just a few lines to enquire about some of the more reputable and dependable of employers in KSA. My criteria is fairly typical: about $32,000 to $35,000 salary. Benefits: paid holidays; paid return air fare to home location; visa for wife and son; paid education for my 8-year old son and furnished accomodation. I know this perhaps sounds a wee bit demanding but I have perused the forum and these benefits and salary don't seem to be atypical. Thanks in advance, des.

What are your quals? More importantly, what exactly is the kind of experience you have?

If you give some indication of this, then we can tell you more about what options are open to you.

Hi bebsi. My enquiry is more to do with what I shall have and not what I presently have. I intend applying for positions in KSA in two years time!! This is in order to get a CELTA, which I should have got years ago and an MA in Linguistics. I currently have a BA and a largely unrecognised teaching diploma. I have eight years experience. This includes a TEFL teacher training course I taught whilst working for a Canadian school in Mexico. I've taught every level from beginners and kids to business English for executives. I've also taught, or rather 'groomed' students for university entrance exams. Many thanks in advance,

Try KFUPM, the IPA and possibly, the Royal Commission...though with the last mentioned you should be careful which individual college you apply for. The other universities and the community colleges are also well worth a try.

Incidentally, "presently" does not actually mean 'at present'; it means 'in the near future' or 'in due course'. This seems to be a mistake many people make, in fact, like "disinterested" and "enormity" Smile

According to my Webster's dictionary, the second definition of the word 'presently' is:

"2. At the present time: NOW"

Ah well, I should point out that Bebsi doesn't currently recognise Websters'. To Bebsi, Murphy's English Dictionary is the one true dictionary!!!!

Instead of 'currently', I wonder if it's possible to say 'at current'?

Wow, with those low salary requirements, you shouldn't have any difficulty getting a job. Why not expect more, especially these days with all the tension in the region? It would help the rest of your EFL colleagues as well. Professional standards matter.

So you equate my salary range as a disservice to other teachers, lowering professional standards and selling myself short because of the perceived danger of the region. Oh yes, incendiary stuff a pay scale!! It's not in my nature to 'slag off' someone in a forum. But your comments are highly revealing of the sort of individual you are. I suggest you read a condensed version of Marx's 'Wage-labour and Capital'.

I wrote some time ago about some bad experiences at UCY (university College Yanbu). Look back over the Saudi Arabia index for threads on that subject. The thread in which I wrote has since been closed by the moderator, but can still be read. That was about April of this year. I have no personal experience of other RC colleges, but there are plenty of postings in this forum.

I have no information about the current situation at UCY however. I hope things have improved, as the RC and indeed, Saudi education generally, deserve much better than what was happening there last year.

As I say, search the threads.
