hi, I'm an english teacher from barcelona thinking to make the move to istanbul. can anybody tell me when the academic year starts, esp. in universities? -or language schools by defect. and, if it's not asking too much, which is the best way round to get decent job at a uni? i've been teaching at the university in spain, so i think i have good prospects to do the same in istanbul?? thanks a million to whoever can answer/help me |

Starts Sep / Oct ...
Best way to get a job at a Uni - they're probably going to recruit from those already on the ground as there are usually quite a few applicants each year who are based locally ... and an interview usually wins over a cv in the mail .... it's probably cutting it rather fine for applying ...
See dmb's post in the 'Master Index' near the top of the Turkey forum for a list of private universities .. though you can forget Koc and Sabanci if you haven't got your MA ... |

Yep, you're pretty much too late for the uni hiring season. You should send your CVs post haste and cross your fingers. Try Isik University and Fatih University. Last I knew, they hadn't fully completed their hiring. But they probably have now.
You can show up anytime and get a language school job. Got a heartbeat? Is English your first, second, or third language? No problem. |

lf you can't get a spot this year, perhaps do a stint with a language school for 8 or 9 months and then start applying again early next year. I think that TED college down in Antalya is hiring for the next school year. They are neither a language school nor a uni. As far as l know, they are a private school which teaches both primary and high school levels. I don't know a whole lot about them, but from what l've heard, it's all good. Antalya is down south. lt's very hot in summer and mild in winter. |
