Anyone have an opinion of this school? I'm considering dropping an application for their MBA program next Fall. My first choice is Waseda and their Global Political Economy MA degree though.

The only thing I've heard about Temple though is that it's stupid kinds of expensive. But once you're in, it's easy to transfer to the main campus in the States if you wanted. Their MBA is also well ranked though.

I get to see a good number of (as in 150+) recent MBA grads every year for recruiting, and there are three things I think are important:

1. Name of the institution is very important if you want "MBA" to mean anything generally and open doors for you. Waseda will carry far more weight globally than Temple. If you want the name to carry you (and all other things being equal, you do, because it's the only differentiator) it has got to be a global name.

2. MBA's are otherwise dime a dozen and IMO pretty much worthless. If you can't afford/get into a "name" programme then find the cheapest option available. Anything in between is a waste of time/money because they're all the same (ie. mediocre) & everyone and their dog has an MBA these days. It's the gold standard for qualification inflation IMO.

3. The real differentiator these days is a specialized Master's - an MSc in Accounting, Finance, Taxation, HR, Engineering Management, Operations Mgmt - is going to get more notice than a generic MBA from a second-through-bottom tier university.

YMMV

Thanks for the reply.

Yeah, that's why I was thinking the MA in Global Economics would probably be a better bet, regardless of school name (except for an Ivy League of course.)

I've only half-considered Temple at this point anyways. It's either Waseda or a State side school for me. I wish there were more English language degrees in Japan though. As of now, the options are limited.
