I'm heading to Tottori next week for a couple of days break, wondering if anyone had any info on it.
Best to take a bus or the train from Osaka?
Cheap places to stay?
What to do? What to avoid?
Cheers

Cheapest way to get there would be the overnight bus.

I am in Izumo, not Tottori, but I know that the bus is a cheaper option than the trains.

Hey. I live in Tottori. Take the bus from Osaka it's about 5000 yen (roundtrip) and takes 3 hours where as the train takes 2.5 hours and is more expensive.

If you are comming to Tottori city... Take the bus to Tottori sand dunes, go to Uredome beach (there are better ones but I forgot the names and only the locals really know how to get to them... also expect to be stung by jellyfish if you go in the water this time of year) go to Ochidani park, go to Kyusho mountain and climb to the top (takes about 25 min for a guy who is in shape and you can see the entire city from the top including the sand dunes, ocean, and lake). If you want to go out at night go to Yayoicho st. It's dead on weekdays and is not the greatest during the night but its about all there is - lots of selection of little bars.

There are lots of cabs outside the station so you wont have a problem getting one.
