ok, then i'll have to reply to my own message. maybe no one here works in krakow, does anyone work in the north of poland? what's an average wage there? i heard from a reliable source that 4000 zl after tax wasn't unusua.
it's just that i go to krakow quite often and i find it quite expensive on my salary of circa 2000zl so i'm assuming teachers in larger cities are paid more.
please enlighten me............... |

Its nothing against you mate, just that this topic of wage has been covered quite a lot in the past, saying that, I think it would be a good idea to see what people are on in the new academic year - does the wage go up with any kind of inflation/annual increase in pay? Probably a question for the grrrrmachines and Alex's of the forum.
In a previous post ('cos i'm emigrating to Krakow on the 22nd August) I said i'd settle for 40 zwots per hour. People have come back and said thats too low and I should hold out for more. Fine in theory but i've just got my CELTA and will be quite happy to get the first year out of the way before I start going for the higher wages in the next year. Saying that, I won't work for peanuts either.
From my research to date, I'll be honest I've found a bit of mixed message from TEFLing in Krakow:
There are 90+ schools
The town is saturated with teachers
Some wages p/h have been quite low (mainly it has to be said with the larger schools/chain schools)
I've also heard that you can earn past 5000 zwots a month.
The conclusion has to be this: Hold out for a good wage in interview, I'll see if I can get 50 zwots p/h but then, because it's my first year and I've got the 'just want to get a job' nerves i'll settle for 40.
Private lessons must be used to supplement income and in which case don't be afraid to charge a minimum of 70 zots p/h and get a months worth of money up front or they won't come.
There also seems to be lots of other available avenues for income, I guess it comes down to how determined you are and how much you want to sell yourself. |

thanks for the benefit of your research.
i'm having doubts about krakow, i know the city quite well and i'm in a pretty good position as i have a year to look for something there but as i've yet to hear anything positive about any school maybe i should be looking a wroclaw or poznan, i just want to get to a bigger city.
much appreciated
and good luck! |

| 40zl in Krakw is ok for a teacher fresh from CELTA. With a bit of experience you'll be able to get more, especially in Warsaw. |
