I'm bringing a US-bought laptop to Europe. I'm also bringing an adapter, but...

the cord to my laptop has two parts. The half that connects to the computer has on it the "box" which says Input 100-240. The half that connects to the wall outlet has the two-flat-prong (American) plug. Could I just replace this half with a European two-round-prong plug and be all set without an adapter?

In many ways it would make sense to buy a laptop in Europe because that's where I'll be using it...but this is what I've got. Is it worth a try or do you think I'll fry my computer in the process?

You converter says it all - no problem on the voltage. Adapters are cheap easy to find and you can often find sets that have several plug types.

Thanks...I didn't explain myself very well. I'm wondering about replacing part of the cord instead of using an adapter with my current cord. I will have access to another cord, which has the size/shape prongs I need for Europe, so I can just try and see if it works...but I don't want to mess up my computer by doing so.

(Does this make sense? The more I think about it, the more I realize it is kind of a silly question to post...so, sorry Smile

When I lived in Paris, I used the simple plug adapter for my laptop and it worked fine. I bought a new laptop before moving to Sweden and didn't pay any mind to the cord. It had 3 prongs rendering my old adaptor useless. Finding a new plug adaptor for this model proved problematic, to say the least.

Long story short, I went to a computer store and they gave me the proper cord to use here (brand new, free of charge no less!). Like tedkarma wrote, the voltage adaptor takes care of the problem.
