Coming into Taipei this Friday. Don't have a credit card to book a room ahead of time. Any ideas? Thanks! |

Depends on what sort of welcome you want. You could opt for a cheap nasty place which isn't all that nice on your arrival in a strange land or something a bit nicer for 1 or 2 days.
I know a place in Taipei about 3 minutes walk from the train station. It's called Hotel Flowers. You get breakfast in the cafe next door and the room is quite nice with a nice bathroom. For 1 or 2 nights of relative comfort you could consider it. I think it is about 1,900NT per night. You can use the two days to find somewhere cheaper and less comfortable.
I am sorry, I don't have the address but I think it is in the Lonely Planet guide or a search online will bring it up for you.
There are also plenty of other budget hotels in that area. Just walk around and ask to see the room before you commit. With jetlag in hand it will be fun walking around with your bags. I remember it well!
Good luck,

There are luggage lockers in Taipei Main Station. Stow your luggage there while you look for a room. I strongly advise you to buy Lonely Planet's guide to Taiwan. |

Known as the 'Taiwan Bible' amongst my friends. Not always entirely accurate, but you can't arrive here without it! |
