I just quit my job at the B.C. and I know that they are going to be doing some recruiting soon, so I want to give a bit of a warning to any possible applicants. Basically, the B.C. has 5 locations here in Lodz and as a teacher, expect to teach at all the locations with little time to travel as well as having in company courses. The secretaries are generally rude, especially when it comes to checking out materials for classes and they treat you like they don't need/like you. Only one of the schools has any resources so you have to travel there to get tapes, books and cds, and it is really out of the way. They do pay on time, but if you are an american, they will say they are working on a visa for you but it will never materialize, so when you go to do a border run, they bitch and moan about giving you the time off. They will also say that they have to pay taxes on your wages, but since you are working illegally it is just a scam to pay you less.

The point is, they need teachers because most of the natives come and go pretty quick. Remember, they need you and not the other way around. Some might have a better experience than I did, good for you, but these are a couple of the problems that I had. Shoot me an email if you have any questions.

J

I wish this type of school wouldn't use the word British in their name. (Or American for thet matter). Does anybody here know who the school's owners are and where they're from?

The British Centre was originally a partnership between an Irishman and a Pole. The Irish guy sold out in 1997 (I think) and the company continued. They used to be good and had a stable base in the centre of Lodz. They lost this a few years ago when WSHE paid enough money to force them out of their buildings and this seems to have resulted in the current situation. Realistically they seem to have been on the way down since 200 or so. A lot of guys who worked for them around this period are still in Lodz but working for other schools and may be able to give more info.
