Dear friends,
Greetings!
I have been looking at this forum with a lot of interest. It is commendable that such a board for teachers exist and the responses for the messages are also pretty useful.
I am interested in taking up a job as a Mathematics faculty in colleges/Universities in Abu Dhabi . I have recently shifted to Abu Dhabi on spouse visa.
I have done M.Sc, M.Phil in Mathematics and I have 4 years of teaching experience in Mathematics and other applied sciences in colleges in India and Muscat as well.
I have been applying for jobs last 3 months.
I would like to know some details regarding:
A. what is my scope in Abu Dhabi?
B. What does secondary, tertiary , vocational experience mean? (I came across this when looking into HCT jobs)
C. Is there any scope of enhancing my qualifications eg Teacher training etc ?
I am very keen on pursuing Phd in Mathematics/ applied areas.
would really appreciate the responses.
Thanks

I believe that the HCT in Abu Dhabi are urgently recruiting Gen Ed (incl. maths) teachers for their foundations years programmes. Your qualifications look good enough for a full-time or a part-time (adjunct) position. The HCT are not primarily interested in faculty having a PhD, although a number of faculty do hold doctorates. |

Yes I believe that the HCT is indeed in need of teachers and as you are on your spouse's visa they would probably be very happy to employ you as an adjuct faculty , which is far from part-time as most end up doing the same 20 hours teaching as fulltime staff and in Maths they have often had more.
You have appropriate qualifications and I suggest that you apply for a fulltime contract position and do not accept an adjunct position that only pays by the hour, and in two weeks once the students arrive on campus they will get desperate.
As far as your other questions are concerned
Secondary = High school
Tertiary = university /third level
Vocational = like colleges of further education (UK) or the TAFE system in Australia, a place where you can do futher training after high school that is not necessarily a university.
Given the level of English and Math of most students entering the HCT at Diploma or Foundations, and dare I say the level of Math you would be asked to teach ( Basic numeracy) experience teaching at the primary level would be most useful. However, they like to pretend to be tertairy so they do ask for tertiary experience .
Hope this helps |

you are paid by the hours you teach, not for your prep, marking or meetings you may be expected to attend. |
