On this forum we often read horror stories of abuse and mistreatment. And that is how it should be on a forum of this type. But occasionally there should be some kudos for those employers who honour obligations and provide service above and beyond the call of the contract. I have one such story I would now like to contribute.
I have just move to South China Normal University, Nanhai campus. I can only say that the reception and treatment I have been afforded is way beyond what any of us have come to expect in our usual situation. For example, I have been offered ongoing help to resolve some major dental problems I had. An assistant from the FAO was sent with me every time I had to go for treatment, with no questions asked about the length of these treatments.
The whole group in the FAO has been very accommodating in helping me to settle in here. They have acted in all situations with professionalism and genuine desire to make the move as pleasant and welcoming as possible.
Every one, from the vice president to the dean and the FAO staff has shown nothing but courtesy and understanding in giving me the assistance I needed to make the move. Another example of this was the kind offer to send the school van to move my belongings from my previous place of employment to this campus - a drive of 90 minutes each way. The driver was courteous, arrived right on time and very helpful in moving all my stuff. My belongings were carefully placed in my new apartment and ready for me to unpack when I arrived a few days later.
When I helped with the summer courses, the classes were very well organized. Everything I needed to go into the classroom was provided without question and in good time. The cooperation I received here was exemplary. Payment was made also without question.
Have I really found Nirvana in China I dont really know yet, but if this introduction is anything to go by, it certainly will be a better place to live and teach than some others of my experience.
I would like to publicly thank them all - the staff of the FAO and administrators of this college - for the warm welcome and their professional conduct in making this introduction to Nanhai. This is a fine example of the good schools that we all know do exist here in China. Maybe more kudos is due to some others. |

Enjoy it while you can. For all we know, things could change 180 degrees next term. But for your sake, let's just hope you have finally found that Nirvana in China. |

Steppenwolf might want to step across the threshold of that university too!Where is the Nanhai campus?
(Steppenwolf once put in a stint in another Nanhai school and was highly pleased with his experience there). |

I could say the same thing about my initial experience with a certain school. I now consider them some of the most despicable human beings I have ever met.
Hope it lasts. |
