At least a quarter of jobs advertised in Hong Kong in July are closely related to operations in the Mainland: 15% are based in the Mainland; 11% requires frequent travel to the Mainland. Manufacturers of electronics and garments there are the most popular employers of Hong Kong workers.
Guangdong province tops the list of locations, providing 84% of such advertised jobs. 33% are in Shenzhen; 21% in Dongguan. This is good news as the dialect is not or less of a barrier for HK workers. If you can go beyond the karaoke to actually speak Putonghua, the bustling city of Shanghai provided 11% of such jobs in July.
Over half of the advertised jobs in Mechanical Engineering and Electronic Engineering in Hong Kong are Mainland China related with a majority requiring residence in the Mainland. Many involved manufacturing production management and engineering. A close neighborer to manufacturing is Merchandising which tops the proportion of jobs requiring frequent travel to the Mainland where most manufacturing facilities are located. |
