I plan on going to Japan after the new year in 07. I have searched the engines on the web and i have not found a decent japan dating website.

What is the most popular one? Perhaps it is better to get on one that is in Japanese because of the more volume of people. It seems to me the Japanese don't really use any famous english dating websites. I was in China a while back and there were a ton of good sites both in english and chinese.

My goal is to make some friends before i come.
Any sites that you would suggest?

Please send me a private e-mail message if you can. Thanks Smile

Are you trying to make friends or find a girlfriend?

As Sweetsee said, MYSPACE, might be a good thing, although a lot of people on there are trying to build up their "friends," so might not be interested in meeting you straight off the plane, if ever.

Check out - http://www.metropolis.co.jp/ - under the "language exchange" or "friends and interests" sections. I've met a good number of people this way.

Language exchanges are essentially like a blind date. Some work. Some don't. With some you might just chat about Japan and your country. Others will be very serious about having equal time spent speaking in Japanese and English. Others are people looking for a relationship.

I've met a lot of Japanese people since I've been here, and a lot of them were met this way.

Good luck.

mixi, rikai friends, japan pen friends, match.com Japan, etc etc etc.
I have made a couple friends that way. But mostly just email pals. It's good Japanese practice.

I once looked at asoboo.com but some of the people there were a bit crazy one girl was like: 'hey, lets go to love hotel and make a love'. I think you should be a bit careful because the internet has weird people.

She was a guy, dude. Probably sitting at his computer, tapping away in his lace teddy and crotchless panties. Surprised

The friendfinder.com series aren't too bad. The Japan section is divided into regions. They got chat sessions as well, where where most of the people are pretty normal.

Uh...I've met some folks on okcupid. All blind dates I met through messaging were wonderful - some were one-off dates, some became email friends. It's a nice way to keep track of friends, too.
