Justin,

There's been a lot of news (and spectacular photos) lately on the web about this extremely dangerous volcano, where has been erupting the last few days. When I was in Ecuador several years ago, I remember traveling down the highway that takes you past or near some of Ecuador's most important volcanoes and was in awe of their beauty and potential power. And I spent a week in Baos, a pleasant resort town, which is very near Tungurahua. I cant imagine what it would be like to be there now! I know that Quito is nowhere in the vicinity of these seismic happenings, but I wonder if the capital has been at all affected.

Just reading about it in the newspapers like everybody else- photos sure are pretty. I was in Baos a few weeks ago, and it was business a usual in a resort town.

Now, a large part of it has been evacuated, and the other part is nervous. From where it lies, lava won't hit baos, but serious ashfall, mudslides, and rockfalls are all dangers. (When that things throws rocks, it isn't messing around!)

Several villages closer to the volcano have been evacuated, and a lot of livestock have been lost to the ash.

It's cotopaxi that we really worry about...

Best,
Justin

Justin,

I'm sorry to hear that Baos has been so terribly affected by the volcanic activity. When I spent time there, I felt as though I were living in an Andean version of Shangri-La. And yet the photos of the eruptions and the lava streaming down the sides of the volcano and all the rest are so beautiful when viewed from a safe distance....

Hope you are well and business is thriving.
