Hi All,

I'm coming down to CR to take the TEFL course in Manuel Antonio in October. I've decided that I'm not going to try to get working papers before arriving and just try my luck at leaving the country every 3 months. My question is, how strict are the regulations in CR? If you end up traveling three months and one day after you first got your visa as opposed to exactly three months (or sooner) woud it be likely that you would get fined or kicked out of the country and not allowed back, or are these rules relatively lax? I know that no one would stop you on the street to make sure you're within your three months, but when you get to the airport to travel and they see that you've been there for a day or so longer, is this a problem? Any advice would be much appreciated!

When you leave Costa Rica by air, you pay about $26. (Not land travel, but air). If you overstay your 3 months, you pay about $45 when you leave.

If you're from a western country, you should be fine. I never overstayed my visa, but I know people who did, and it was never a problem, even for a teacher who lived in CR for two years.

If you're Nica, that's another story...
