Hello all,
I read somewhere on the board that looks play a big part in being considered to teach in HK.
I'm a hispanic-american (New York bred!!) with an Bachelors in English having worked in the educational publishing industry for the past 10 years. I am strongly thinking of applying to become a PNET (will be taking my TSEOL certification course in November). Is there any truth to preference to blonde/blue eyed applicants as opposed to those who are not (i.e. not looking caucasian). Not sure how much truth there is to this.
What do PNETs out there say about this? |

Apperance counts for a great deal.
First impressions, etc.
As long as you look presentable and dress appropriately. Appropriate being the accepable norm for a HK teacher.
If you are refeering to physical appearance, I would advise against nose rings etc. |

The EMB employ people from many different backgrounds. I've met quite a number of Chinese-Canadians; Chinese Australians; Japanese-Canadians; people from Indian descent and people from Malaysia and Singapore who are NETS. I don't think being Hispanic is an issue - just your qualifications and experience. If you don't have an Education degree or diploma, your salary will be capped. good luck.
