They are looking for 3 Canuk or US teachers for a decent wage on the Job List

Sounds awful. You can do better.

Shared accommodation ? That is for college students and people from the Third World. Do not accept.

People from the 1st/2nd World, especially singles, also use shared accommodation, what's wrong with that?

Sharing is for the poor and for college students. As an adult professional, I would never have considered any position in any country that expected me to have to share a flat with strangers.

I shared for nine months in Kuwait, and five months in Saudi.

Hopefully I will never have to do it again.

Grown-ups do not share accommodation. That is for people in the military or college kids.

Some professional, non-military, rich, like to share accommodation without any problems.

I QUOTE from an English teacher looking to share accommodation:

I am an English teacher. I am 49 years old, rich, a non-smoker, non-military, professional, clean, respectful, fun, and adventurer. I like action all day, but quiet in my room. I would consider sharing. Please respond if you are interested?

So, may be he does not want to live alone, because he is sociable, and wants to share with people to interact with them.
I understand that some people they do not like to share accommodation, may be they are used to 'individualism' life style, and also they are entitled to that, it is their life and also they are free. But, loneliness sometimes is killing!

Abba, you've missed the point again. The issue is whether institutes should require that faculty share accommodation. This is a separate issue from whether one might actually like to do so, by choice.

Hi again,

I appreciate all the shabab's & shabette's comments on the vicissitudes on sharing a dwelling with a stranger. I guess I may be an exception in that I am flexible. Maybe it comes from doing my first ESL job (many years) in the Japanese mountains where winters were long and I was glad to have someone to share the heating bill with. Wait, that was my J-girl/friend...I guess it is not the same as sharing with some hairy, strange fellow.

Anyway, having done a military contract, I am used to cohabiting. I was with
"Willy-Wanilly" (name changed to protect from retribution) where it was common. the villas were big, so I hardly noticed my villa-mate.
I was actually considering one more year at Willy-W in Ar Riyadh but I heard they got some (repeat) apps from Crazy Bob who was a legend of a strange fellow in the Jeddah area/mil schools. He did things like ban all others from the laundry room while he was laundering. he was scary enough that others complied. What worries me is that WV is hiring anyone these days, so maybe him too...or someone of his ilk.

Anyway, it sounds like you guys on this forum have it just so where you are, which is nice for you. I am doubting the realism of me being able to demand my own villa or flat, my dream salary....hmm... a pimped-out loan of a ride for the year... howzit this?... time off whenever the Motherwell side is on satellite TV, like Scott47 has Very Happy ...or is it for Arsenal matches??

Point is, I don't believe that people leave the schools with the great conditions until the gout, shingles and Alzheimer set in and the account on the isle of M**an (the revenuers are listening, too) is brimming. Me, I want to work THIS YEAR. Is it really worth the risk of waiting for something at KFUPM (and such) to open and hope not too many are applying. It seems to be a gamble to just hold out for the best offers.
I am not an awful instructor but my MA in not in ESL or linguistics but Modern Languages (yes, I know, silly degree in this age) which'd put me lower in qualifications than others.

What I meant by starting this post is just to see if anyone had some AWFUL STORIES & YARNS, DIRT, tales of dishonesty and LATE paychecks....is the call to prayer muzthaine speaker just next to my window-type-of thing. Looking over the list of posts, noone had specifics on this school (ELS Language Center) The thread was entertaining as usual (my aren't you all a charming, witty lot...treat yourselves to a round of Sid on me Smile )

So, there is a tendency here (KSA Forum) to always say there are better things available and, Allah willing, they will be visited upon me. hmm...
so even us Kaafirs should have faith in Providence.

Well, thanks for the advice, but until I get my feet back in the Kingdom and my ear in the Grapevine, i think I will apply for some of these less than choice jobs and see what the interview process brings.

Cheers

I don't think there is much hoping involved with regard to the latter statement, and just go to the website to download the application form.

You will need an EFL qualification, though a CELTA is fine.

There are a few jobs advertised here for Saudi, which will not require you to share at all, and some of them pay up to $4,000/month.

Why don't you apply for all of them?
