I know it is out in BFE and not exactly in Dalian. I also heard of a guy that started working there making really good money. Of course, part of the reason might be because it is BFE. Otherwise I haven't heard a peep, probably because people who work out there don't make the trek into town too often, you can attribute that to it being out in, you guessed it, BFE! |

Not exactly sure, but I think it is out there somewhere. At least a 45minute - 1 hour ride by bus or more, but to tell you the truth I don't know exactly. You should ask or research on the net the exact location just to be sure. |

Yah...the DEDZ is BFE.
If you're considering something in this area be advised that the Dalian Economic Development Zone is NOT Dalian. You can easily spend an hour or more getting into Dalian from the DEDZ. Getting back and forth gets iffier as the evening wears on since a lot of the buses stop running just as the bars really get going.
The Zone is not really so bad as a place to live but it will not offer a lot of the cool things Dalian proper can give you.

Yeah, I knew people who lived in JinZhou and that is closer to Dalian then the DEDZ and they rarely made it into Dalian. The only time I saw them was when we had nothing to do during SARS. Although the pay in the DEDZ would be better and you would save alot of money because there is nothing to do out there. Ha, out there JinZhou might actually be "The Place" to hangout, which would be pretty sad. |

They have two campuses in Kai Fa Qu (the development zone) and a bus that runs between them every 10 minutes. Teacher housing is in a tall building next to the main teaching hall.
Coordination between the two campuses was poor, causing a lot of consternation for the foreign English teachers who had to travel back and forth. Students -- recruited from far away -- were universally upset with the high cost and low quality, feeling they were ripped off.
The foreign English teachers said they were not given materials and were just told to generate conversations (lecture?). Many of the students slept through their classes.
Hillside location close enough yet far away enough from the busy market area. |
