I've read that DSL is available in KSA. So, I was wondering if there's anyone using Vonage there? If so, does it work well? |

I have a vonage account and it works well here. I discovered that you would have to get at least an account of 256kbps through AwalNet in order to surf the web as well as hold a decent conversation at the same time. With taxes, I pay exactly $28.99 a month which gives me unlimited calls/faxes to/from U.S., Canada, Puerto Rico and certain parts of the U.K. I notice youre from/in Ohio. Im from Cleveland so pm me your telephone number if you want more info.

Just to add for the benefit of others...I believe this was discussed already.
I live/work in the southern part of Saudi, in Jizan. The way DSL works here is not like SBC in Ohio. Saudi Telecom Company doesn't provide you with all the equipment/software/service as you would get with SBC. STC will only provide you with the access line which will cost you a one time fee of 300 riyals. Then, depending on the speed you want transferring on the DSL, STC will charge you a monthly rate of:
80riyals/month - 128kbps
100riyals/month - 256kbps
120riyals/month - 512kbps
THIS IS ONLY HALF THE EXPENSE....
After the line is set-up, you'll have to get service for that line which are through various providers such as AwalNet, SaudiNet, and so on.
I use AwalNet so your monthly service (re)charge will be:
200riyals/month - 128kbps
300riyals/month - 256kbps
540riyals/month - 512kbps
Oh yeah by, the way...this does not include the money you'll have to spend on the modem. As for myself, I ended up buying a wireless ADSL modem/router because I'm planning to buy a computer for my children.

I think you're getting wireless modem mixed up with wireless card. Last time I checked, up to date laptops only carry wireless cards in order for you to access wireless modems. The wireless card doesn't create a connection to the internet. It's only a medium of exchange (WiFi) such as coaxial cable (cable internet) and twisted pair (standard telephone cord) for dial-up. In simplified words, you would still need to buy a DSL modem to get access to the internet.

Not really.
As a matter a fact just check Sunday's ads in the newspaper. Usually Best Buy or Circuit City have good deals. Just make sure that the modem can handle an input range of 100V-240V.

If you've got a laptop it will link by wifi to your wireless router, but you still need the router/modem. |
