|
|
I have a private starting next week. She is a Bilgi student (not worked all year and has one last chance to pass the exam on the 26th of September.) what is involved in the prep exam. Is it still the same as 3/4 years ago?
My normal Bilgi contact is on holiday so I can't ask him. |

I was lied to. I was told the student is doing the Bilgi exam on the 26th of next month and her level was upper int
She is pre int and doing the Kultur exam on the 13th. When will these kids learn that they can not spend a whole year doing sh.ag all then have 2 weeks of tuition and pass the exam?(but Iam happy to take her father's money)
Question still stands though. Does anyone have any info on the format of the Kultur uni hazirlik resit exam? |

Give her grammar gap-fills from the Betty Azar book. If she doesn't pass the first resit exam then she will definitely pass the second or third. Everyone passes the final resit. |

No but I am familiar with another tosspot private uni exam and the setup is the same for these places. Private high schools are the same of course. Con the students into doing some studying and turning up some of the time by making them think that the exams are important. In order to keep the parents paying and not lose customers all the students pass the exam or one of the resits. To be fair though, a few outrageous desperadoes don't pass and they either leave or repeat Prep. It is a win win situation for all.
I guess that the exam will be a very crude homemade version of TOEFL with each successive resit being easier and cruder with marks of 40 becoming 60 and then 30 becoming 60 and so on.
I talked to a Kultur student a few years ago as she is a neighbour and she said something like:
because we are customers the teachers have to behave softly towards us
In Turkish of course and with a smug look on her face. She could not see the irony of the situation as I am supposed to be a teacher. |

based on her description of the one she has already failed that sounds about right. However, I don't really trust her version of the exam as she doesn't have the language to describe it.

I disagree. Bilgi does(or at least did) have a different style which doesn't follow a TOEFL format.

The private uni I worked at started off using a homemade, crude copy of IELTS-a 4 skills exam equally weighted but due to pressure from the grammar gap-fill brigade they opted for a 4 skills plus grammar section all equally weighted.
At that private uni and I imagine most, the lectures and lessons are all in Turkish where all the students are Turkish-obvious really so skills like notetaking etc. are not necessary in English. |
