Is it possible for Americans to acquire another nationality without losing their American citizenship?

I believe it is now. In the past it wasn't, but that (in)famous Australian Rupert Murdoch surrendered his Australian citizenship in the 70s to get US citizenship, only to apply for it back later when the US changed the rules. Just check that the country you want citizenship of doesn't insist that you surrender your US one.

It depends on the country. But most countries have a policy of not telling your original country when you acquire dual citizenship. If they don't make you surrender your passport, then you just don't tell the US that you have another one too. This is a question for someone at the US embassy in Lima.

These links are useful:

In short, you cannot lose your nationality. Citizenship is different.
The pages above will explain why Americans born in one of the States are automatically 'dual-citizens'.

I'm not a lawyer, I only play my own in court.
