Their web site (http://www.iat.ac.ae/index.asp?ID=2) is most impressive. Looks like a wonderful place to teach and live.

They are offering a 3 year contract which is a bit scarry. It doesn't make sense to me to hire someone for that long, sight unseen.

Anybody else out there have any comments.

Most places in the Emirates do 3 year contracts. It's easy enough for them to get rid of you whenever they wish to - and it allows them to not give you a raise for 3 years... win/win for them...

I would also love to know more. I have an interview with them in Australia later this month. I noticed on their website, I could no longer find anything about contract conditions, there was certainly info when I first sent away an application several months ago. Also, in my excitement of actually having an employer contact me, I forgot about the three year contract term and from memory, they provide 'accommodation allowance'. Now I wish I would have printed out the info for later reference, a lesson learnt. So, any enlightenment would be appreciated. Wink

Hi

Well, I wonder, has anyone even managed to jump through all the hoops and actually get a job there. As someone previously mentioned, it's exciting when you actually get a response. like getting a nibble while fishing, you kind of hope there is more but more often then not...... Crying or Very sad

If any has managed to land that one, how long does it take? I am looking for immediate work.

Impressive? Were you being sarcastic? That is one of the least impressive sites I have seen for Gulf institutions. Nary a photo of any students nor facilities. Most of the links are not functional. The page advertising positions has all these openings for the 'abu dhabi' branch, but the branches page doesn't even include Abu Dhabi. (not that any of the links work here)

It looks like a place to avoid until it has a track record.

No sarcastic, but maybe relative. Guess I've seen a lot worse.

The Institutes of Applied Technology have been mentioned on here a few times before. They began life as technical and vocational high schools, which were pretty dreadful places - the weakest, least motivated, least disciplined students in the country, pitifully underfunded and under-resourced.

However, they were taken over 2 years ago by HCT through its CERT operation and now seem to have improved considerably. Judging by their new buildings in Sharjah and Dubai, the funding has improved and I've met teachers who are happy there - though they do still have some scary stories of some of their wilder students.

As VS says, 3-year contracts are the norm here, but the first year is probationary on both sides. If you don't like it, you can leave with 3 months notice in the first year, while the notice period becomes 6 months (or one semester - interpretations apparently differ) if you continue beyond the probationary period.

If CERT has taken it over, does HCT do the hiring? Or does CERT hire separately now?

And why don't they fix that pififul website?? Shocked

Try clicking the staff listing link. Nothing comes up. Does no one work here or are they too ashamed to post it?
