En un acto furea de toda legalidad y usurpando funciones, el presidente municipal Jos� Humberto Cruz Ramos pretende reclutar, contratar y habilitar estudiantes de la Universidad del Mar (UMAR) para que impartan educac�on escolar supliendo a los maestros en huelga y, de paso, debiliar su movimiento.
El vicerector de la UMAR, Esteban Leyte, contesta sin dilac�on y niega apoyo al edil argumentado que los alumnos estan en periodo vacacional. Evidentemente, dijo Leyte, "con educac�on no se juega."

That's all in the article. I don't know in particular which students are involved, but I imagine I've taught at least some of them. Many of these students are very sweet but naive and poor, and I'm concerned that they are being taken advantage of in this dispute. |

Here in the Mixteca, parents are giving classes at 4 primary schools. The parents all had to have a university degree (in anything) to be chosen as teachers, several are Normal graduates who have gotten out of teaching. Parents who did not fit the profile are doing the cleaning, admin work and working as security guards because they are afraid of APPO retaliation.
I'm sure the UMAR students just want to give the younger kids the same opportunities that they themselves had. |
