I have a few questions related to finding a job in Latin America and would appreciate any opinions and input from those with experience teaching/living in LA!

I am a 24 yr. old female and want to teach English somewhere in Latin America next year. I have a teaching certification in ESL and as of May '07 I will have a BA tefl.

I plan on taking a beginner level Spanish course next semester and am aware that even then my level of Spanish speaking will be rather low.

Considering my age, qualifications, and language level what do those with experience consider the best places in LA to go and look for a job?

Also, when is the best time to do so?

Is it even worth it to try sending resumes to school ahead of time and if so how far in advance should this be done?

Thanks in advance for any advice or suggestions you can give!

First off, it's not necessary to speak Spanish, most places wont even let you speak it in the classroom.

Contact Justin Trullinger if youre interested in Ecuador. Argentina and Mexico seem to be popular places.

Hiring starts now for international schools, but for other institutes from now until Febraury as classes begin in March or April. Bring at least 100 dollars, but that's just an estimate.

Try sending CV, though most won't answer, but it's still worth a try, I sent over 100 and only a handful answered me, Most want an in person interview.

Also, chekc out the job links below.

thanks for the info.

Just curious (to naturegirl or anyone else) - is the place you ended up working at one that replied to your CV?

No. I was working for the University of Piura for two years. Now I'm in Lima at Villa Caritas school.
