I hold UK and Canadian citizenship so can work in the EU. I'm moving back to the UK in November. As all newbies do I have been reading everything I can on this site. I have questions too!
- if asked for a photo, what kind should I send, passport/head shot/all of me??
- I am also one of the unfortunates with no degree but a CELTA, but I do have experience teaching and tutoring, will I still have problems getting a position in Europe or Africa? I'm looking at GYA in Ethiopia at the moment.

This is my first post and I'd appreciate any advice. Thank you!

You will get a job but the pay and conditons are likely to be much worse and the choice of jobs much more limited.

You should send a head shot. It's usual procedure in Europe. This way they can discriminate before meeting you.

A resume in Europe normally includes your age, civil status, and a picture.
French companies often require a hand written cover letter so they can have their witch doctors interpret it to make sure you won't go postal.

Coming to the UK in November is not going to make things easy. There will be jobs available but they are likely to be temporarry or part time and are not likely to pay much. Most of the private language schools which might employ you are in the south of England wher it is expensive to live. Where are you returning to?

Vacation work will probably not be an issue but can you survive till then? EFL / ESL does not pay well here unless you get involved with colleges and / or universities.

Thanks for all the info everyone; I'm leaving for the UK on Nov 15, going to Salisbury Wiltshire and staying with family at first. I know that it's not good timing for ESL positions, and that I'll not get great pay but I'm flexible, and can go where the work is.
