I am starting my first job on monday(2nd Oct). 1 hour a day until next June
These kids will be having their first english classes with my but in my TEFL college I just worked with 14 to 18 yr olds.
Can anyone point me in the right direction as regards what to start off with and how not to make them nervious. I have a basic knowledge of what to start with, ie introductions, numbers etc but I want things to get off to a good start.
Cheers
Adrian

You're probably much better off posting this thread on the "Newbie Forum" or the "General Discusssion Forum" as then you can benefit from the knowledge all the users of this site from all over the world as your question isn't particularly specific to Spain.

yes when i did my tefl i was never taught how to teach kids!!!
The TEFL course is mainly for teaching adults.
But this is not reality teaching because school owners think hey i'm hiring a teacher they can teach any level and age!!!!
Basicly it's down to experience.

OK, I'm not a teacher, but my advice would be to include as music, singing, finger plays and games as much as possible. My daughter is in a Spanish-immersion program here in the US and that is the stuff that stuck with her most in kindergarten and got her interested in Spanish. Keep it as light and fun as possible.

This is a good way to introduce other topics:

Duck, Duck, Goose: animals
Itsy, Bitsy Spider: directions (up/down)

Here are some for numbers: http://www.preschoolrainbow.org/preschool-rhymes.htm

etc. etc.

Google "fingerplays" or "rhymes" for more ideas.

Hope that helps!
