Can someone please tell me what to do with these books-Listening and Speaking and Reading Skills.
I was just handed them and the tapes and told to do it.Fine but,do what?
The classes-junior 3(14-16) they don't speak ,80-100-just look at me.
Obviously I'm green, the staff are no help-just seem to snigger.I have no idea of the course requirements-I can't get a straight answer.
Can someone "talk" to me please-let me know what you would do.
Any suggestions greatly,desperately appreciated.

Okay, I don't have that text book but, this is what you do. Stop worrying about course requirments or getting any kind of detailed description of what you're supposed to do. You are not going to get it. Look at the text. Start with page one. Are there activities and reading passages? Do them in class or make up your own.
Kids won't speak? Do some kinds of 'icebreaker' games. Later just pick students and make them stand up. Students must stand up to speak to the teacher. You'll probably have to tell them when to sit down unless you're mean and want to leave them standing up all class hahaha. Do not give them the option of not speaking. They know English so make them use it even if it's basic. Tell them to do speaking exercises with eachother and then pick the ones who were not practicing to speak infront of the class. If they say, sorry I did not do this. Tell them you gave them time and it's too bad they didn't do it and were too busy picking their noses and doing other homework and they will speak anyways. Some will be able to speak and others will stand there going uh uh uh uh uh uh uh and when you think they've had enough uhs let them sit and be warned for next time.
If it's answers to reading questions or anything else that you are looking for, don't wait until students put up their hand or volunteer a response. If no one is saying anything pick on someone and if they don't know the answer the kid beside them will tell them. |

Ah Calories
I can see you're an old pro! (pardon the expression)
Thank you for spelling it out. My god-so sad I know, but I really needed to hear it.
I'll hold my head a bit higher tomorow-once I relax! |
