Just about to head back to Saudi after the summer break. Before I go investing in piles of DVD to take back with me, does anybody know which region DVD players in Saudi are set for?
cheers

Hi Fish,

I bought a Pioneer DVD player in Saudi that is universal and therefore plays DVDs from any region. I've collected DVDs from Asia as well as the US and the UK--all of them play without any problems.

I seem to remember someone telling me that multi-regional DVD players were not readily available in Saudi. At the moment i'm in the UK and wavering on whether or not to pick up season 5 of The Sopranos and various football hooligan genre flicks before heading back to Riyadh.
Looks like this Pioneer job could be the way forward.
cheers Dawg

DVD players sold in SA are either multi-region or region 2 (UK is region 2 as well).

You will have to check your DVD player, but either way, if you are bringing DVDs from the UK, they should work.

US is region 1, so they will not work if your player is region 2. You will have to buy a multi-region player.

Expect the possibility of a visit to the customs office or whatever they call it while they randomly check some of the DVDs for illicit material. In my 2 years in Saudi. This happened twice in returns to Riyadh. It was all fairly good humored though and the only confiscated movie was 'Vertical Limit'. mayabe somebody wanted to watch it !

Satellite TV from Orbit helped to make life a little easier.
