Hi guys,

I would really appreciate if someone could get back to me on this one. I am currently doing my CELTA in Madrid and I finish on teh 29th of September. I know I could almost certainly get work here in Madrid (I have a degree in Biology one in Law and I am an EU passport holder) but I really want to live in Valencia (I was there for a month and I really love it) However realistically will I be able to get a job starting at the beginning of October in Valencia or is that too late. I have savings but I would like to be workign at least 15 hours a week for my first month or 2 (if full time hours arent an option). Please can someone tell me if I will get work there cos if not I will have to stay in Madrid.

Thanks in advance,

Nicky

Just wanted to bump this back to the tp, as I'm in pretty much the exact same position! In Spain now, want to start work in Valencia in any time after June, what do you think of my chances? Cheers x

Whatever you decide, please don't forget that after June there's not much work anywhere until mid-September apart from on summer camps which tend to be on the coasts or in the mountains.

Moores right - leave it until September. I've been jobhunting before myself in Valencia in June and it's frankly a waste of time trying to get any job nevermind English teaching as it's very difficult to do so. Schools in Vlc start looking early September, there is very little summer work around there and what there is is usually snapped up by teachers already there.

Thanks for your help guys, do you think it's worth phoning and sending CV's before summer in the hope of securing a job for september? I don't mind being out of work for the summer but as I'm in Spain now I'd rather get something organised, or does no one recruit in advance? Thanks x

There's not much point in sending out your cv that far in advance: a couple of weeks in advance maximum, otherwise they can't be absolutely sure you'll be there if they want to line up classes with you as the teacher: schools can't afford to let companies down.

If you don't mind my asking, what are you doing here in Spain at the moment? If you're studying in Madrid you might be able to fit in a few classes here and there with an academy, then you'll be in a much better position with them for summer camp work and work in September?

Thanks, at the moment I'm a language assistant in Galicia, i.e. the point in Spain furthest from everywhere else! I finish work here at the end of May, so might investigate summer camps now - are they really as bad as I've heard?!

A lot of my mates have gone up to do summer camps in Galicia and had a whale of a time: very hard work but a good break from the city, apparently.
