I started my school year on the 4th of September. I had hoped that I would get a partial paycheck for one week, seeing as it is kinda unreasonable to expect someone to go longer then a month with no pay. however my employer seems to think otherwise. They do not plan on paying me until the 10th of October. When I said that "hey, I may be american, but even my funds are getting a little low, I need to be paid for that time" they said I might be able to get a "loan" from the headmaster. This, again, sounds fishy to me. I started working for this company last month, should I not be paid something on the 10th, when they pay everyone else? I think I should, simply to take into account the amount of time before my next check. Like I said, this sounds fishy to me, but I don't know, is this typical? Any help would be great, thanks.

when you get paid on october 10th you'll get five weeks pay. take the advance they offered you. its only going to be deducted from your october salary. i'm not getting paid till october either, but i have enough cash to last me till then.

I get paid once a month on the date that I signed my contract not the day everyone else gets paid. By loan they probably just mean they can give you some money within a few days and on pay day they'll give you the rest of your monthly salary. Them not paying you until October is nothing to worry about.

Hmm, still, I need to get everything else worked out, like my visa situation, them expecting me to pay for it, etc.

Maybe you'll get "payed" when you learn to spell it properly?!

The pay period for which you are PAID on the 10th will undoubtedly be for the month of Sept. (1-31st). Don't expect 5 weeks pay on the 10th Oct.

Yes, I have already found that out. They do withhold 10 days, and there is nothing I can do about that. They did advance me some cash until I get paid though, which they will deduct from my check. It's not exactly what I wanted, but compromise is often the spice of life.
