I'm planning to head down to S. America by the end of the year and I want to buy a laptop computer before I go.

Will I be able to get an Mac laptop serviced if it breaks down in S. America? In any of the big cities?

Which would be easier to have down in S. America?

Thanks.

There are Apple service centres throughout South America so I don't think it would be a problem having a Mac. Check this site for listings: http://latam.apple.com/service/

As for which is better to have, well that's a subject for a whole different thread (in a whole different forum). It is a good idea though to get your electronics before you get here as they cost a lot more here than in many other parts of the world.

Software will be expensive for your Mac and you won't hardly find Mac software at your friendly neighborhood transient software vendor.

If you are a Mac lover then go ahead and bring it down, if not then just remember, more games can be found for the PC than for the Mac, service costs are less for the PC, etc.
