I am not sure if it is okay to ask this here, but does anyone mind looking over my application essay? I doubt anyone wants to. I'm just looking for feedback on the content. |

Is this an application essay for JET? If so maybe you could post it here as an example for others writing one. I'm sure many of us could try and help out. Also, there is an unofficial JET website http://www.bigdaikon.com/ but many of the posters there appear to be barely human. |

No, it's for ECC, Aeon, Geos, Nova, etc. I wrote 2 JET essays in the past (made alternate both times). I feel safer waiting until I'm working in Japan before sharing them on a public forum though.
I'm just not sure if I'm hitting the right areas in the right order. For the JET SoP, I put more emphasis on my international experience, where as on these applications, I'm placing more emphasis on my work and teaching experience. I ordered it: Intro/background, proof of interest in Japan, teaching experience, related work experience, conlusion. I'm aiming for about 500 words, rather than JET's 2 pages. |

For the eikaiwa companies you really don't have to provide very much other than an interest in Japan and an interest in teaching. The only thing that will really put off these companies is a long teaching CV, qualifications and any treatise on your teaching style. They want to know you're fairly young and pliable and are keen to learn new things.
Apart from that, make sure the grammar and spelling are correct. |

What about appearing as if I know too much about Japan? I mention I took a few related courses in college and learned the kana, which should only give the impression I have a strong interest, not that I'm an expert. I was going to add that "I am just beginning to learn," to make it clear, but figured it should be obvious. What do you think?
Also, for anyone who has submitted an essay before, did you customize the line-spacing so the 500 words fit on one page? |

I would love to look it over GR, perhaps you can pm me. I have done the same thing before and don't know that I can be of any help to you, but I will certainly try.
Enjoy,

I wouldn't worry about making the word-count exactly 500. You should probably write less than a page, the point of the essay is just to show your enthusiastic and have a good enough English ability. |

I asked because I can only fit 300 words on one page double spaced. I can convey much more in 500 words than I can 300, but to fit 500 on one page, I have to adjust the line spacing to about 1.5. Maybe that's what they expect. Those websites say "one-page (500 words)" as if they are equivalent. |
