Hi all,

October is the month during which many schools in Bangkok recruit teachers right? Which other periods of the year are periods during which schools in Bangkok recruit? Are there such are periods or not? Does a teacher have the same chances of finding an equally good job at any time of the year, or during a specific period?

Another thing:I have no work experience, I'm not an English native, but I have an undergraduate degree, a graduate degree (Masters) and the CELTA (I'm doing it during this month, let's suppose for a minute that I already have it). Regarding salary, should I ask for the standard 30 000 or for 40 000 Baht per month?

Thanks!

Depends on what kind of school we're talking about.

Language schools generally recruit all year round.

The Thai academic year at public schools & unis

begins in May and ends in February as follows:

Semester 1 - from May to September

Semester 2 - from October to February

There's a good bit of hiring during the semester breaks,

both in September-October & again towards the

end of summer break in April-May.

As a rule, you won't be asking. They will be offering.

You can sometimes negotiate a little over salary,

but it's usually "yes" I'll take it, or decline.

Hi,

as regards the recruitment. thank you so much. You made it very clear for me. I guess I will find to get a job since the new semester begins but if I don't find anything good, I won't mind waiting.

Regarding the salary, yes you are absolutely right. I won't be asking they will be offering. Actully I never ask anyway. Smile All I meant is how much I would expect and how much I would accept. At the interview I had at Fun International, they told me that with my undergraduate degree (4 year law undergraduate, National University of Atehns, Greece), the one year masters (in International Law at University of Edinburgh, Scotland, UK) and the CELTA (that's what matters most I guess) I could easily get a job as an English teacher for 40 000 Baht. Do you think they are right?

Thanks again...

Hi Alex

Your qualifications are excellent & 40K is realistic.

There's only one aspect working against you;

the non-native speaker thingy.

Some schools will turn you down for that;

other schools will be eager to have you.

It's a mixed bag of employers out there;

pay attention to the wording of the ad.

If they're looking for a native speaker from

UK, Canada or USA, they usually say so.

Ok, now for another question. How about my M. Ed. with three years experience and two licenses along with another year of tutoring plus my wife's three bachelor degrees? Is 50K fair for me and 30k fair for her? I'm just exploring at this juncture.
