For example, I can take my sheets to 'magiel' and skip ironing the big stufff. I know, it's a small pleasure, but still a pleasure if you like crispy sheets.

There is a 'magiel' near you.

Please tell me what sort of bread is meant to be so good in Poland. I lived there for 10 months and all the bread was rank. I know you should buy it fresh each day and eat it asap but even though it was all horrid. I actually prefer, against what my heart tells me, pre-packaged presevative fuelled English TESCO bread. Help me convert to the Polish Foundation of Bread Lovers.

I can't believe you don't like the bread here?! You must be buying the preservative filled crap in the supermarkets, OR you are one of those odd ppl who only LIKE that kind of preservative filled, overbleached, sugarfilled crud.

Polish bread is the best I've tasted in the world.

Huge loaves of Country Bread are the best. They last at least a week, you slice it yourself to keep it fresh, AND you can but HALF loaves, they cut it for you! What more could you want!?

GO POLISH BREAD!

Twarog/Polish Cottage Cheese is another fave... sooooo delicious. Razz

Also, as opposed to the Brits and the Yanks, they know how to make a decent cup of coffee here... Happy happy joy joy!

On a trip to Poland last month I ate Polish bread and it was great. But I'm a Yank from California and I know how to make good coffee, if you like French roast or espresso. I'll be in Gdansk next year and if you're in my vicinity I'll brew you a good cup.

Poles know how to make a decent cup of coffee? Oh man! If you go to any decent cafe in the States, you'll be served a strong cup of excellent coffee. It's almost impossible to even find such coffee here, let alone get it in a cafe. The coffee they serve here is murder on the stomach, strong perhaps, but with no real character. I've never had a decent cup of coffee in Poland.

Same thing with beer--murder on the stomach. Zywiec is obviously the worst, but Polish beer is all highly impure. It's not the alcohol that gives you the gut-wrenching Polish hangover--it's the impurities in the beer. Five Polish beers give me a worse hangover than any amount of American beer. I was back in the States in July, drinking only locally produced ales, and had absolutely no hangover whatsoever. I've switched to non-Polish beer--yeah, it's a bit expensive, but worth it. Palm Ale from Belgium costs 3 zl at TESCO here--it doesn't have much character, but it's a totally drinkable ale. Even Paulaner Heffeweisen, a nice German wheat beer, is better on the stomach than Polish beer. Wheat beers are known for upsetting the stomach, but still preferable to any Polish beer. I generally order gin and tonics when only Polish beer is available. Polish beer from a keg goes down like razors. Oh, there's one exception which I've discovered--some American guys set up a brewery in Krakow and produce an excellent Amber Ale. I believe you can find it in the Alma food shops there, and it's available in about six places in Krakow, in Kazimierz and near Rynek Glowny. I've convinced my friend here in Poznan who runs a restaurant to carry it. It's Polish in name only.

Polish bread is another story. I think it's wonderful--Chleb Wiejska is great, as was mentioned. Basically, I like any bread here which has a nice crunchy crust.

The bread from a good bakery is lovely. Unfortunately 99.9% of people here eat 'Baltonowski' which is leathery, full of chemicals and disgusting. The polish equivalent of Sunblest, but worse.
