Given the number of dodgy schools around, I've been wondering what it would take to open my own school (one day) in Indo. I'm sure it would cost a lot, but what exactly would be involved? |

An Indonesian business partner you could trust with your life. Plus a stack of brown envelopes. That should get you started. |

winmarr, i'm interested in hearing what you (or anyone else) would do to make your english school different from/ better than the rest. i'm sure there are alot of teachers out there that have some positive/ interesting ideas for improving the current and new establishments. |

I started a school for adults / business people with an indonesian woman. My input was business setup and management and marketing, with me as the figure-head / token white guy. After it was up and running she decided I was no longer needed and she would get someone else onboard who would teach at 150,000 per hour when classes came up. When client managers and students asked where I was, she told them I was not reliable and had been replaced. I was nieve to think she could be trusted in the first place. I gave her heaps of input which virtually set up her business. But I have no regrets. I knew never to try it again. |

My idea is to avoid a lot of the problems that people complain about on this forum! Treating teachers well would be a start....
Damn you had some bad luck there, Chester. I take it she seemed trustworthy until that happened?
I'd be using my wife as my Indonesian business partner. Without her I don't think I'd do it. |
