Hi, I am a woman over 40 years old who is looking to change careers from Accounts Payable to ESL teacher. I am hoping to teach overseas at a later date but in the meantime I am looking for work locally where I live in Montreal. I am still working in A/P but only 3 days a week so am using the other 2 days to change careers.
I have two questions:
Does anyone from Montreal know if there are recruiting agencies that find jobs for people. For example, for accounting and office jobs there are various agencies, including Quantum, Groom & Associates, Accountemps, and Randstand. Is there something similar for ESL?
I am also interested in tutoring to make some extra money. What are the average hourly rates that a teacher would charge for 1 person or for a group.
Any help would be appreciated. Thanks. |

I charge $20-$25 for an hour long session of tutoring. That covers the materials I use and the prep time. For classes? I don't know, I guess I'd probably charge the same. Do they have craigslist for Canada? I'm tutoring 4 students by placing an ad for tutoring on craigslist here in PA (and I don't live in a big city or anything), and I've already turned away 3 people. (I have 2 other jobs.) |

Hi Pollitatica, thanks for your answer. That is what I've been hearing from other teachers, about $20 - $35 per hour. I will also check out Craigslist. I have heard about it too.
Good luck to you. |
