Could anyone give me some info on average hourly rates of pay in Thailand for English teachers, please? I know a lot of teachers are hired on contract with a monthly salary, but supposing a teacher was to work privately teaching one-to-one lessons, how much could they expect to charge over there? Thanks in advance! |

B350 and up. Even four years ago I was making B600 in Siam Square for writing or TOEFL type classes. |

I have a contract with a language school but I'm also managing to fit in some "private" corporate classes @ 600 bht an hour. The contract gets me the work permit, but pays a lousy salary for full-time teaching. If I could secure enough "private" hours to forego the contract, how would I be able to get a work permit? |

You`re right Kent and you need to make almost 3 grand/month to qualify for a self-sponsored visa, too. That`s a lot of privates. |

[quote="Kent F. Kruhoeffer"]Hello Brewster
Here in Thailand, you'd need to ask one of your private 'clients'
to sponsor your WP ---> it's not that difficult to do really.
You'd ask them to employ you as a 'consultant' rather
than as a 'teacher'. In so doing, you can bypass
MOE and the teacher's license requirement.
Makes it easier & faster to get the WP.
Thanks fort he advice, Kent. I've just read on Thaivisa.com that, under the immigration shake-up, they will no longer be issuing WPs for "consultants"! Do you know anything about this?
Rather worrying! |
