I have yet another question - and thanks to all who responded about the recommended shots (if you do want to recommend alcohol shots I'd be willing to try those out too!). I'm in Canada and am trying to find the cheapest travel insurance for two for a year as my coverage doesn't work outside Canada. I went to BCAA and they gave me the cheapest quote of approximately $350 each for the year not including the US. With this insurance we are allowed to be in the US for 48 hours. I was about to buy this when I mentioned that we were driving and she told me that we would have to buy insurance including the US, which almost doubled the previous quote she had given me. She told me that since we're driving it's impossible to make it through the US in less than 48 hours. I argued that my husband and I are veteran road-trippers and could/would make the Mexican border within 48 hours (providing all goes well vehicle-wise etc.) She phoned a higher power who told her that I would have to buy insurance that included the US even though we plan on heading south to the border ASAP. Can anyone recommend a way around this or recommend another insurance company? thanks for any advice (again). |

I think even $700 Canadian is very reasonable for a year, depending on your deductable. I have insurance through a company called GNP and I pay $720 a year. This only covers emergency hospital visits at the second best hospitals. I also pay $30 a year to access a health network and get discounts on visits with specialists- $15 for a consultation. I have no complete coverage though, it's all patched together.
IMSS public health coverage is also a possibility, but I would rather have immediate access to a hospital that I'm familiar with in an emergency. |
