i found a purebred husky, not much more than a year old.

at the beach where i surf, there are a lot of feral dogs, and this new one showed up recently. it's a stray, but new enough of a stray to still come up and seek human contact.

it's a beautiful dog, and probably cost some idiot a lot of money before they realized that raising a large-ish dog is a hell of a lot of work and only certain people deserve to attempt such a pursuit.

anyways... i want someone to take this dog into their house. it's beautiful. it's friendly. it's unspayed (i saw proof in that it was being successfully macked on by a male).

i would not like it to go feral.

back in canada we have the SPCA. in the US they have the humane society.

any options in japan? please advise.

There are places, at least they are talked of a little. But I have never actually seen one of these places, and I think they are few and far between. Before I found a kitten on my doorstep I was going to go to one and get a cat..but no one knew exactly where it was...it was hard to get a straight answer. I know how hard it can be to not be able to keep him but not want to let him loose (we just kept ours, but cats are easier). If I were you I would try to find her a good home, theres a pet section on gaijinpot that you could post an ad. In the meantime do you know anyone with a yard that could store her?
Good luck!

Just as an aside, you're sure it's a pure bred husky and not something else like an Akita or Shiba? Breeders don't just let pups like that wander off, even in Japan.

Where are you? I'd call Animal Rescue Kansai (ARK). They have a Tokyo branch, too. If those are too far away.. try posting on the Yahoo group Angels with Fur. But I'm sure ARK will help, with some contact info if nothing else.

I wouldn't call the hokenjo (sp?), I believe they generally euthanise most strays. You should, however, call the police. They don't take strays, but they keep files on lost pets. Maybe someone is looking for this dog. Your local vet clinics may know the animal, as well.. and can do a check for a microchip. People post about lost pets at City Hall and grocery store bulletin boards, too. Worth a look.

yup, it's a husky, doesn't have the same bullish looking head as a shiba or akita.

I'm not sure if this question should fall under the same heading as the OP's, but I'll give it a shot: does anyone know whom to call in order to report roadkill and request a cleanup? Sad to say, there are lots of stray cats in my area that end up getting hit by passing vehicles...

Call City Hall about roadkill, they'll send someone out or give you the number of the garbage collectors that deal with it. They keep the bodies for three days in our area, and also keep a file of lost pets.
