I'm currently in the situation where I'll be in SA in December or January, and since I have a fair uni workload until the end of November, I can't decide between trying to learn Spanish (LA Castillian) or Brazilian Portuguese. Brazil certainly calls to me, but I gather it's relatively expensive and there's the inevitable visa problems. On the other hand there's Ecuador, Peru or Paraguay, in which case the visa situation and living costs are somewhat less problematic.

Any suggestions regarding which language I should put the time into? I already have the courses for both, so it all comes down to time management.

I would say Spanish, it's used in more countries.
