Anyone hear of them or have experiences dealing with them. I'm just curious at this juncture. Any information is valued. Thanks y'all! |

Sorry, I got a little confused - you want to study how the Chinese concept of the Old Boys' Network operates in situ, or what?
There may be a "Guangxi University" though you need to identify the exact location then; it could be in Nanning.
As for 'guanxi' - any university, school, or, indeed, the interface between the business community and the public administration will do. |

guangxi university is in nanning. the biggest and most famous school in the province. they have a sino-canadian institute there and there are apparently a good number of foreigners working at the school. never actually been there but i did work down the road from guangxi uni three years ago. looks like an ok place from the outside and in a good location near the city centre. |

7969,
That's the type of information I'm looking for. Thanks! I hope others have more information as well. |

I've just played tennis at one of those "non-pro tournaments" in Nanning and met a teacher from Guanxi University there. He seemed to be quite happy with what he's got there. But then that's as much as I can tell you about that Uni. 7969 is quite right about it and it in fact is the number one Uni in Guanxi. If you wonder about its location, it is a bit out of actual downtown, but public trans can serve ya there.
OP, good luck!
and
cheers and beers |

My first teaching experience in China was at Guangxi Univ. in Nanning in 1990. It must have been a good one because I returned for seven other summer teaching stints (in other locations in China), as well as teaching for two years in Hangzhou.
Yes, it's a good university and they've been dealing with foreign teachers for almost 20 years.
I'd still be in China but I'm having to deal with back problems here in the U.S. Maybe after this next surgery I can return. |

Can't speak for the University, but Nanning is the best place I've ever been in China.
Despite the bad weather when I was there, I found it a most pleasant time.
It was definately the people. Very friendly, very little staring or hoiking, I just got a really NICE vibe from the place.
All the western amenities (lot's of coffee shops) and a book store with a large selection of English titles.
I was in a coffee shop and I looked around and caught a girl staring. She looked at the ceiling, the floor, the walls, basically didn't know what to do. She was embarrased. (polite enough to be)
If you get a deal in Nanning, be assured, it doesn't get any better in China. |

I suppose she stared at you. Now, are you that ugly or handsome?
Cheers and beers to all FTs in China |
