Hiya all;

I spent '97 to 2003 in L. America, mostly Mexico City. Spent 2000 in South America-2 months in Ecuador and also in Medellin, Colombia and 8 months in Chile.

After 3 years in China I want to return either to Bogota or Brazil. I slighty favor Colombia as I can speak Spanish.

After doing some research it seems you can legally only spend 6 months each year in either country and work visas seem challenging.

In the case of Colombia does anyone suggest the student visa? If so is it hard to do, or expensive?

I would also sincerely consider getting married. I want to settle down and teach Business English, at first for employers, and later privates, and finally have my own consulting business. I have traveled to 20 plus countries and want to stay now in S.America due to language and cultural acceptance. Not possible in Asia in my opinion.

Appreciate any feedback.

LAV

I would suggest that speaking Spanish, you would certainly be better to consider a Spanish-speaking country. Having been to Brazil, I found Portugese is rather difficult to pick-up and the people don't appreciate being talked to in Spanish.

Those in Colombia can clarify this, but I have heard in Colombia that foreigners are readily accepted and intergrate smoothly into society.
