Is it true? If you want to work in Peru, you can just go to Migracion and get permission and pay the fee? Now is this a working visa? |

No. This gets you permission to sign a contract. The working visa is much more difficult. Takes about three months. |

Hi Naturegirl!
Glad to see you again on Dave's cafe!
How about pernament residence? I know that it is quite difficult to marry a Peruvian: how hard is it to gain the right of pernament abode as a single? |

Not too difficult. If you legally work for a place that will get you a work visa. They are good for a year at a time and after two years you get get citizenship. |

Sounds good - not too complicated!
Also... you can't see the new Peru forum from the front page of www.eslcafe.com - you have to enter the job discussion forum first. Do you know whocan fix this? |

So I wonder if I have this right... I can enter the country on a tourist visa (30-90days)... then go to migracion to get permission to sign a contract... then what?
Does this permission act as an application for a Work Visa? Or would I need to submit an application for that separately?
Does this permission give me authorisation to start working? Or does one have to work illegally for 3 months until the Work Visa is approved? Or do I have to have the funds to support myself for three months while I wait to get the Work Visa? Will I need copies of my TEFL certificate and BA (notarised? originals? not required?)?
Just curious because I would like to come down to Peru in January, and I want to make sure I understand the process. (While I am asking so many annoying questions- here is another- I get the feeling from the posts that it is best to just arrive and then start looking for work, because most employers want to meet me face to face, right?)
Thanks all |

After you sign a contract, then your employeer has to start the paperwork in order for you to get a work visa.
About working illegally, it's pretty common until the paperwork is ready.
You will need to get your BA notarised, but the embassy will do it here.
Yep, most employers will want to meet you face-to.face, but it never hurts to send your CV |
