I was looking around for summer camp jobs on the internet today and boy, it's hard to separate the clutter from the good stuff.
Anyway, I happened upon this page http://www.asij.ac.jp/sdc/sdc-staff.html for the summer day camp program at the American School in Japan. It looks pretty cool but I wanted to know if anyone out there has worked this camp before and what their experience was? I tried searching the board but if anyone has posted anything about it before I couldn't find it.
I'm teaching in China now and headed back the states for the fall, but I was going to try to squeeze a quick camp job in to get a little extra cash before I head back. I did a winter camp and Korea and would like to avoid Korea if I can even though the money was good. I'll be traveling through so it'd be nice if they provided more than they did - this camp doesn't provide housing and only one meal...is that normal?
Any pointers to some good camps out there that are friendly to teachers coming in from overseas? I'm looking to be able to come out with some money but it doesn't have to be a huge amount since this will be my first time in Japan and it will be fun to see a little bit of it in those small day long breaks you get. What's the going rate for a month long camp job right now? I'm well qualified and have worked a lot of camps both language and non and both in the states and overseas. |

I'd say you're going to have a really hard time finding something over here, especially being outside Japan. How will you get a visa? In addition, there are loads of high school and university teachers on their holidays during that time, with a visa, that often work a little extra to double up on their income. I wouldn't get your hopes up. |

I did it last year! It is great super easy and the kids are wonderful mostly Japanese and much better behaved than the regular foreign students! I hope this helps. They hire people from all over I taught with people from Hawaii, Uk, Australia the States. |

Thanks. A similar program in Osaka, but it is very hard to get into, is 420,000 yen for 4 weeks, about 3.5 hours teaching a day. |

By the way Ms. Ash, the director of Summer Day Camp is a very nice person to work with. You can talk to her about anything you want. |
