Hi there. I'm leaving in a month to work for AEON near Tennoji Station. I don't want to join a gym because from what I've read they're pretty expensive. Really all I need is a swimming pool and some semi-descent places to run. Does anyone know if there are community centers in that area where you can just pay a daily fee to use the pool? And are there any good places to run? So far I haven't been able to find out a whole lot about the area...

Thanks!

spa world is near tennoji and i'm pretty sure they have a pool on the roof level. and they're only closed an hour every day (9am-10am ?). not sure if you could swim laps, though.

edit: forgot about the running, tennoji park, maybe?

Osaka Jo Park (Morinomiya on the JR Loop Line) for running! It's only a short bicycle ride or short train ride. Nice area for running. On the main street, there is also a pool and a gym on Chuo-dori. The gym is reasonable (400 yen) but the pool sucks and it's 700 yen.

Tipness isn't that expensive and there is a nice one in Tennoji, near the station.

There is a pool at Bentencho station. The name is Freizeit (spelling?)
From Tennoji you can take the JR Loop Line to Bentencho Station and follow the signs for the ORC building. The pool is around there, you'll see the signs.
As for Jogging, there is Nagai Park (soem Japanes people don't like it anywhere from around sunset) which is 3 stops on the Midosuji subway out of Tennoji station and 4 stops on the JR airport Line (local train not express) . ( Going there will depend on where you live, that might be going away from where you live but if you are going to be living in that area well then ..)
As was mentioned before Osaka Jo Koen which is on the JR Loop line from Tennoji about 6 stops. (or Morinomiya station, puts you off at a different location. If you get off at Morinomiya, you can walk right into the park. If you get off at Osaka Jo Koen station, you have to walk a bit. Fairly Big Park.
There is a Tipness gym in Tennoji as well as an Oasis in the Lucius building.
And as was mentioned there is Spa World, which is close to Shin Imamiya Station one stop from Tennoji or 12 ~ 13 minutes on foot,( but the walk is a little slummy and some Japanese people are afraid to walk around there after sunset). They prefer to take the train.
