Hi all,
I've been teaching for a few years (in private schools and state schools) and some of the classes have been Matura. However, I've never fully understood what's required of this exam and there are very few English resources out there. Does anyone have any information about Matura or know where I can find something in English?
Much appreciated, |

Cheeseandegg,
Matura has two versions: Basic(Podstawowy) and Advanced(Rozszerzony). The basic one is compulsory and the advanced one is optional. Students continuing on to university usually take the advanced test. I'll describe the basic test.
The test is divided into two parts. The oral(ustny)(10 minutes) is worth 20 points, and the written(pisemny) (two hours) is worth 50 points. The passing grade is 30% of 70 points. Oral exam has two parts and the written one has three.
Speaking Part I - tests student's ability to ask for and give information in a typical life situation e.g. airport, restaurant, lost, etc.
Speaking Part II - students have to describe an illustration or a photograph, and then are asked two questions pertaining to that illustration.
Written Part I - Listening Comprehension(Rozumienie ze sluchu) (15 points). 2-3 conversations, interviews, or discussions (6 min. total) are played twice, and instructions are played to fill in a true or false, multiple-choice, or matching. The total time of this part is 20 minutes.
Written Part II - Reading Comprehension(Rozumienie tekstu czytanego) (20 points). Two or three informational or literary texts(1.5 pages total) adapted to level . True/False, multiple-choice, matching.
Written Part III Writing (15 points). Two written assignments: one short, one long.
Short (no word limit) - write a postcard, an advertisement, an invitation etc.
Long (min. 120 max. 150 words) write a personal letter or a simple formal letter.

At the top you'll see Matura z Angielskiego 2006.
Next to Arkusz I click 'transkrypcje' for oral transcript, and click 'rozwiazanie' to see the written test with key.
Poziom podstawowy-basic level
Poziom rozszerzony-advanced level(expanded level literally)
Arkusz I- sheet I, this is the written portion for both levels
Arkusz II- advanced level written
Arkusz III- advanced level written |

Thanks a lot Pollux!
This will give me something to read for a little while. All seems much more useful than my school's resources. |

I havent done Matura teaching for 2 years, but I think the standard book students used was called Opportunities, plus a lot had knowledge of Enterprise 2 for the standard level - that should give you an idea of where the state system aims for |

I did Matura last year and this. Oxford Uni Press are publishing a few new books which come highly recommended, one of which is called,"Make your point", for the speaking exam, plus the "Oxford Repetytorium" (much better than the grim title sounds!). In my experience steer clear of unknown publishers with titles like simply"Matura 2006".
