There was someone who said they went back to the same job and it wasn't very good. I'm wondering about people who went back to the same region, county, city &/or job. Did it work out or was it too much of memory lane? At least you know the good and bad in advance. I'm thinking of doing it. What do you think?

It's a big old world. Why would you go back to the same place unless you had personal ties there? Personally, i still want to go to Finland, Mexico, Egypt, Colombia, Burma, Sarawak, Botswana and California. I also want to go back to where I used to live but for personal reasons cannot. When the personal reasons are absent, ie no longer living there, i suspect i would be making a mistake if i returned. Clear as mud? What i mean is, it depends on you, but i wouldnt do it myself.

Wow that's alot of countries to live in. I used to think I'd like to live in a few countries too but after trying my second one and finding too much disorganization which would probably be prevalent throughout the country I refused the job and thought about just living in 1(maybe 2), saving money and travelling more instead of picking up and moving. We'll see. Thanks for your interesting response. Guess no one else has gone back or they're not talking.

Gerard is spot on!

You can never go home. Things change and are never as remembered. With absence we tend to glamorize or ramanticise and what we remember is just not the way it really was. And, can never meet our expectations again.

I disagree, I find that going back somewhere just keeps getting better and better. You know the place better, know what to avoid, and know the good and the bad. It keeps getting better and better I've found. Plus you'll have tons of connections, a better grasp of the language, and just all around good in general.

That being said, I prefer going to new places, but everytime I've gone to a place I've known before, its always been a good experience as well.

Go easy on Tiger Beer. Like a lot of dudes in this line he does not score very high on Tests of Measured Intelligence.

That is a diplomatic way of sayinh that he is stupid.

Thanks Tiger Beer and others. I had been leaning to going to a different country but after researching a few I found too many negatives so I thought well I'll go back to the same country but a different city and school and then I get an email from a girl who just went to that country and describes the owner/director as a "vile woman who says foreigners are a pain in the ass" and she's already looking for a new job. I already had a bad experience at the first school I worked at but the second was great so I'm back to thinking about going there again if there is an opening. So I think I agree with Tiger Beer at this point. I already know what I don't like, I can try to avoid the pitfalls and maybe be better at the language this time. Most of all I can save money for further schooling.

I would say that there is an element of truth in what all of the previous posters say.Of course,it depends on the specific situation and the personality of the person involved.It is true that time tends to dim the true picture.The problems are usually still there,and sometimes they are worse than before and sometimes there are new problems.I have gone back a couple of times.Once I regretted it,and the other time it was okay.

Actually, I feel there is more adventuring possible in returning to the same country. I've worked in England (not teaching, I'm from the US, ) Panama (beautiful country, poor) Kuwait (ugly country, rich). Now I am back in China. Every year I stay, I learn more of the language, country and culture. More and more possibilities open for me all the time. Stability is a spring board to extending yourself and leaping of into new possibilities. For some, anyways. Like me
