Hey folks,

I am likely going to be heading to China in the next couple of weeks. I will be leaving from Mexico. The only Chinese consulate to which I can go in Mexico City. Believe me, this is a major pain in the a.. .
Last year I was in China with a Z-visa. I was there less than 30 days and never registered for a FE permit or residency. There is still time left on the z-visa in my passport (almost 3 months). Would it be easier to apply for re-entry on the visa that I have? Or will I have to start from scratch?
I figured that if I could re-enter, in a few months I could renew my work visa there.
Any ideas?

YOu can probably reenter, but you will have a problem with your new employer if you have no release letter. Apparently you did a midnight runner, and an old visa must expire before you can apply for a new one. a new one will be issued provided your former employer has no complaints against you. A release letter must be stamped by the local psb before you get hired from a new school.
You can apply for a new visa in Hong Kong, but a work visa is tricky. I do not know if they will cancel it there.
